Seeing v. Looking

Robert Rodriquez Jr in his photography blog (1)
states "seeing is a process that starts with looking and observing.” I found it interesting that he did not include judging, justifying, or comparing. He is intrigued by simply looking, observing, experiencing that which unfolds or is created in front of us.

As he continues he indicates that to transition from looking to seeing  it is essential to make "... a conscious willingness to let go of the aforementioned labels [Concepts] and focus on light."

I feel letting go of labels - concepts frees us to see the unfolding experience before us. It is a purer encounter than relying on conceptual mater, theory, the form of what should be. It provides an opportunity to let go of past experience ... especially negative experience, e.g. trauma. The focus shifts to "light" to new opportunity to be creative, to be happy. It provides an opportunity to enter a relationship with the person(s), nature or objects that we see. Seeing that which is, creates a tension or contrast. Robert states “… tension doesn’t need labels. It’s simply a relationship that creates harmony and beauty, …" interesting tension ~ Contrast creates the potential for harmony, beauty and creation.
