What do you see?
More importantly, What do you feel?

Famous Landscape Photographer, Robert Rodriquez says:
"A great ... [photo - image] relies on … emotional impact. …... Every photograph you capture needs your interpretation, otherwise they just become a record of what you saw,
not what you felt."

Resistance to the flow of money …

Pondering the first question:
Resistance to the flow of money …

The class’s answer to the first question was almost universally “what … I don’t know.” They know that they want money but they haven’t been able to make a connection between career and life style. They equate career with a job. No one helped them think of career as mission or purpose for their life.
They see career as clocking in, clocking out and
picking up a paycheck.

I remember that when I graduated college with a BA degree in liberal arts,

The Three Questions?

Last week,
I gave the students in my psychology of relationship class
three questions to ponder.

  1. What resistance are you offering against the flow of money to you?
  2. What is your special talent, or ability?
  3. What are you willing to risk in order to use your talent to the fullest, to achieve your mission in life to be happy and to share your talents with others?

How would you answer these question?

In the next series of blog posts, I will give you my answers.

Meditation a path to Intimacy ~ Relatedness (IV/IV)

One day when I stepped off the elevator at the college where I teach psychology courses, a former student was standing in the reception area. She came toward me, gave me a warm close hug and said “Thank you." I asked her “what did I do?” She said, “Meditation.” “you taught me how to Meditate … Meditation has helped me soo many times … Thank you.” She then scurried off to the tasks that she had to do that day.

If one Googles “meditation” the browser will bring up over 135 million hits. If one explores Barnes & Noble bookstore you will find over 48 thousand books on meditation. I am sure that each of these books or articles on meditation provide different perspectives and techniques for meditation.

The meditation that I taught my student is simple – it is a breathing meditation. It is easy to learn, and can be practiced anywhere.

Intimacy, Vulnerability, the Glitch ~~~ Pt III Contrast

Intimacy, Vulnerability, the Glitch ~~~ Pt III Contrast

“Think — and then
evaluate the value of the thought by noticing how it feels; and
do that often enough that you know, without question,
that you are in alignment  [with self, with source]—
then speak, then act, then interact.” Abraham-Hicks[i]

Abraham is highlighting the unique power or gift that we have as human beings, namely our ability to think, and our ability to feel. Let’s take a moment and reflect on what thinking and feeling are.

Intimacy, Closeness, Vulnerability & the Glitch Pt. II / IV

My son, Thomas got me to watch the movie, Wreck it Ralph. I must say that I had my doubts about the movie; I had a mild expectation that we would be entertained. I was surprised at the way the movie was woven together and the deeper meanings behind the characters. I do believe the movie has much to offer adults.

I’d like to share some of my thoughts on healing … overcoming trauma or severe hurt.

Intimacy Closeness Vulnerability & the Glitch Pt. I / IV

This is the first of a four part series on glitches and trauma.

There is a cute animated movie called “Wreck It Ralph.[i] Thereare many stories, many deep themes of relationship within this film. The story develops from the characters in various videogames and their interactions. I am going to use characters from three video games within the movie.

The Video games and characters within “Wreck It Ralph” are:

Penelope –– she is a Princess in the game “Sugar Rush” but when the King (aka: Turbo) messed with her “computer code[ii]” traumatizing her, she became a “glitch.”

Turbo – a racing man from “TurboTime” (aka the King, in Sugar Rush) – who when his game closed became jealous of the other successful games. He took over “Sugar Rush” by messing up Princess Penelope’s computer code, which causes her to “glitch[iii], [iv]

Ralph a character in the “Fix it Felix” game – His job was to wreck the building so Felix can fix the building. Ralph is unsatisfied with his role as a wrecker and wants to transform his life and become a hero[v].

When Penelope emerges in the film she is identified as the glitch, i.e. a hiccup in the game. She became a “glitch” when King (aka Turbo) tampered with her computer code. As a glitch, she is mocked, excluded and otherwise a person non-grata.

Despite functioning as a glitch, Penelope had spirit and kept trying to prove herself.[vi]
