Canopy on 34th Street

34th Street Canopy

Taking a break from teaching
I wandered thru the streets of midtown
Many thoughts crowding my mind
Spotted a Visual Contrast
Focused on a square on 34th Street
Approached and Glanced up
Wow
The contrast the dark tree branches
The beautiful fruit from the tree – the flowers
Reflections of the city beyond the Canopy.

A young lady came about 1 meter in front to my right
She had the same idea
Raised her phone and sought to capture the beauty of the canopy.

The joy of open minds to see the beauty that is before us

On Friday, I attended a Fordham Alumni cocktail reception at the Princeton Club in Midtown.

The Graduate School of Social Work and the Graduate School of Education were represented at the event.

Aimee Barr, LCSW did an excellent  presentation on "“Asking the courageous question.” As clinicians, it is very important to ask this question to ourselves so that we may be more fully present to our clients. Asking ourselves the questions that give us difficulties is more productive than suffering quietly and ignoring important pivot points that will enhance and empower us.

I had a chance to network with many great professionals at this Alumni event.

Path to Healing Support Group II / III of Initial Session

Ruth is a bright, gifted woman who excels at the creative work that she does. It was important to let Ruth feel that she was not at fault for being bright, gifted and creative.
Being bright, gifted and creative certainly makes a person stand out. We all have our creative, gifted side but most of us are afraid to show that side of us. Ruth was not afraid to use her gifts but was troubled by the family’s negative response to her abilities.

The Path to Healing Support Group got off to a successful start.

Path to Healing Support Group

Part I / III

One of the members, Ruth (not her real name), graciously gave her permission to share her story on the blog because she felt that it might help others who felt blocked in achieving their happiness. She was anxious to learn how to move past her block and deal with the pain that she was experiencing.

This blog will be presented in three parts
  1. Initial presenting issues
  2.  Deeper down the path
  3. Tools to

a.    Face negative pain emotions
b.     Reclaim energies from negative emotions
c.     Use her positive, freed up energies to use her talents and gifts
