My interview by Margo Grant & Daria Gradusova concerning my exhibits at the International Arts Festival

Ralph Michael’s International Arts Festival Experience –
an interview by Margo Grant and Daria Gradusova
to be printed in the International Arts Festival newsletter and on the IAF website.

Article & PHOTOGRAPH © Ralph M. Ferraro, 2013, 2014, RmfTop@gmail.com

 1.    Was the IAF a good networking opportunity?
a.     The IAF was a mixed experience in regard to networking. The opening night on Central Park West and the opening night in Jersey City were great opportunities to meet both talented artists and visitors to the exhibit who enjoyed the artwork. After the grand opening at each event, the visitors were few and far between. Even the artists were not around most of the day.
2.    Did IAF in any way influence your career?
a.     The IAF was an exciting experience for me. I was very grateful to have my photographs chosen for the exhibit. I enjoyed talking to the fellow artists that were on display. I also enjoyed taking visitors through the gallery to see my photographs and the work of the other artists.
b.    The IAF experience definitely encouraged me to pursue my artistic passion without reservation.
3.    Did you enjoy the vibe of the event?
The IAF produced two different types of vibes.
a.     The first vibration was the excitement of being chosen and on display for all to see. The ability to share my art, my photographs with other artists and with the public was truly a joy. This positive vibration was exhilarating.
b.    The second vibration was the joy of showing visitors around the gallery and helping them to experience the various artists. It was a joy to see their attraction to the different works of art.
4.    Would you recommend this competition for emerging artists?
a.     I would definitely recommend this competition to any artist. When I submitted my works, I felt positive. I felt that I was offering works of value. I didn’t know for certainty that they would be chosen, but was very excited when I got the news that my photographs were chosen.
5.     Is there anything you would like to see/add in 2014 competition? Different media, maybe graphic design, maybe a technology piece?
a.     I would like to see workshops spaced throughout the exhibit time that would enable artists to talk about their art and challenge the attendees to discover the artist in themselves. Art, at its best, invites people to connect with the self-activating, self-creating personality that Maslow states each one of us have. Art is communication; it is being playful; it is being creative and brings out the unique best in each person. If each person connected with his or her creative, artistic side, the world would be a better place.
b.    I would like the exhibit to be longer at least a week and easily accessible by public transportation (especially in Manhattan). If it is going to be in another location like Jersey City, then better marketing, promotion and time (not August when people are on vacation) need to be implemented.
6.     What advise would you give to those who are submitting their work?
a.     Be playful
b.    Be in touch with your inner spirit
c.     Allow your unique qualities, your passion to emerge in each piece that you do.
d.    Do not be concerned about whether someone else would like or value your work. A woman who came to the exhibit said, “there is a lot of shit masquerading as art, but if the work is truly art it will speak to the soul of those allowing themselves to experience the work of art.”

e.     Do not attempt to imitate someone else (famous artist) or style (classic, avant-garde, etc.).

Enthusiasm, Energy, Alignment, Flow

Enthusiam and Energy Flow

An interesting quote from Abraham-Hicks has inspired me to take charge of my public speaking and my photography for 2014. It, along with support from my son and my friends (MB & JB), transformed my stormy weekend into a directed plan for 2014.

"When you feel enthusiasm to do something,
it means you've lined up the Energy, and
you are being inspired to take action from that point of alignment.
When you don't feel like doing it,
don't push yourself, because your effort is not worth it.
But, when you line up the Energy,
the feeling of procrastination goes away."

--- Abraham

Interview with Daria Gradusova concerning my thoughts on the Art of Photography

Today, I was interviewed by Daria Gradusova, representing the International Art Festival (Russian Museum of Art). She interviewed me about my view of the Art of Photography, Healing and the combination of my photographs, poems and musings on my Blog.We talked about the impact of Self-Actualizing Psychology on art. Further details next week

It was also my first attempt at videoing my interview.
I used a Canon full frame 6D with a Canon 24-105mm f4 L lens.
I used a Dolica Proline 60" Carbon Fiber Tripod to mount my camera equipment and a Rode Go mic.
I was very impressed with the quality of the Dolica Tripod.
The Rode mic go was not as impressive. I will review both next week

the Bubble: the Magic of Relationship ~ Pt. II

Photo and Text © Ralph M. Ferraro,  2013, RmfTop@gmail.com
No part of this photo or text may be used or copied without permission

This week I was able to present my talk,
"the Bubble: a Magical Relationship ~ Part II, , to my Jade Toastmaster's Group and to students in several  of my College Classes.

You might ask what is a
Bubble Relationship ...
it has several components, it is:
  •  not logical
  •  Involves both
    •  Emotional Energy ~ Joy ~ Pleasure
    •  Intellectual Energy ~ Openness ~ allowing ~ Choosing to interact with a creative flow that is uninhibited
  •  arises spontaneously
  •  It is synergistic
  •  a high level of positive energy
  •  a state of Consciousness without thinking about it, without reasoning, without justifying, without planning
  •  it is totally experiential, in the now
  •  unparalleled Intensity
  •  100% involvement (no shades of gray - you are either in the bubble or out of the bubble)
    • You can only be in one bubble relationship at a time
    • For a new bubble relationship to come into being, the older bubble relationship must end
  •  It is a state of Joy, excitement
  •  all else is excluded
    •  baggage history (relationship, patterns, culture, religious dictums)
    •  learned patterns of previous years, of childhood move aside to allow the now
  •  the inclusiveness involves,
    • You,
    • the Person of Interest,
    • God or Source Energy
  •  there is a unity
  • you could  be in a crowded room yet
    • the presence of others is extremely tangential,
    • as if they,  their thoughts or their observations, their comments did not exist, and
    • do not matter.
  •  You and the other are
    • totally open,
    • vulnerable,
    • interactive
  •  it is a live experience, not theoretical, not merely philosophical
  •  It is fragile, Like the bubbles in the photo
  •  Bubble consciousness can be maintained indefinitely
    • both people must feed it by
      •  allowing it to be
      •  being totally open
      •  communicating vibrationally and lovingly
      •  not allowing others to interfere with the energy
  • Bubble consciousness can stop instantaneously
    • fear, anxiety, concern about “the others in the room” about “image” about “what others might say” can cause one or both people to suddenly say
    • “Oh shit, I am in the bubble”
    •  “I am totally vulnerable (as opposed to allowing the pleasure, the joy to be)”
    •  “what will others say or think?”
    •  “I need to jump out of the bubble, I don’t know what to do ? … it’s scary.”
    •  a person who leaves the bubble can block or seriously impair the communication with the other person for months or forever.

 Upon leaving the bubble,

  • the entire relationship can be so severely crippled because of a persons fear, inhibition, or defenses becoming activated and prominent.
  • The gates of relationship narrow significantly or close and
  • meaningful interaction between the two who had been in the bubble will be replaced with
    • increasing coldness,
    • increasingly fragmented conversations and / or
    • increasing physical distance.

I do believe this bubble experience is what we are meant to find.
It is primarily a spirit state yet it is also physical.
It is like no other human physical experience.
To find it, requires
  • asking for / desiring  the experience,
  • allowing it to unfold,
  • having enough faith to allow it to blossom.

Comments, questions, thoughts are welcome :)))

"Boyfriend / Girlfriend ~ A Conundrum"

A recent conversation prompted me to think about the Word "Boyfriend/Girlfriend," specifically about the thought and the energy level when a person introduces this gem of thought, "I have a boyfriend or a girlfriend" while talking with another person, especially if there is a synergy between the two chatting individuals.

I presented a brief discussion about these thoughts in my college class "Human Growth and Development." All the students  participated actively in the discussion.

I will be presenting this talk, "Boyfriend ~ Girlfriend a Conundrum" at the Jade Toastmasters Group which meets tomorrow November 12th at 6:00 PM at the New York Life Building 51 Madison Ave. Guests are welcome.

What are your thoughts about the terms "Boyfriend/Girlfriend"  please send me your thoughts before Tuesday night.

Will you allow yourself to explore these dynamic words that can change energy flow with me on Tuesday?

Hope to see you at the Jade meeting.

Ralph won 1st Place at the Toastmaster Area Contest

It feels good to win 1st place at the District 46 Toastmasters Area 25 Humorous Speech Contest.

My talk was titled:

"the Cat, the Sword, and the Belly:
a Paradigm of Humor."

My colleague from the Leadership Roundtable Toastmasters Group, Gary Dumbroff, said

"I am glad that you made the time limit because not only did you entertain but you taught about key elements of humor, it is difficult to do both in seven minutes."

Aaron Brown, ACB
Area 25 Governor
District 46 2013 - 2014

Presenting me with the 1st Place Trophy

He really enjoyed my reference to the Belly part of the speech

Thanks to Gary Dumbroff (Leadership Roundtable Toastmasters Group)  for taking my photo receiving the trophy.

Although at a contest, the contestants do not get a formal evaluation, several of the Toastmasters attending were gracious enough to submit feedback and suggestions to me.

Some of the audience comments were:

"I liked the way you were able to connect with the audience. Your gestures, descriptions and examples painted a vivid picture of what you were talking about."

"You have a natural skill in telling a story."

Now, I have to continue to refine and polish my speech for the  next chapter  ...

the Division Contest which is coming up on

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2013 at 6:00 PM.

The contest will be at the NY Life Building, 153 Madison Ave, between 27th and 26th Street.

I will have to rush over from the 30th Photo Plus Expo Day of Conferences to give my speech.

Please come out to hear my speech and lend support.

I am sure you will enjoy my speech, the speeches of the other contestants and have a great chance to network with the great people that you will meet from District 46 Toastmasters.

Jump - Finding Your Wings

A few weeks ago, I attended a Les Brown workshop. At one point he said "jump and find your wings on the way down." A provocative comment for sure. He didn't mean doing something foolish ... yet how could one interpret his words.

I pondered his comment and began thinking about the emotional energy of jumping and finding one's wings. The emotional energy of jumping and finding your wings have four  components -

Before the Jump
  • Jumping
  • Finding Your Wings
  • What to do with the wings

Jumping and finding wings might be similar to the new spring buds that are beginning to bloom.

Let's look at the process -

Before the jump

the Upside of the Downside Pt. III / III

Text and Photographs © Ralph M. Ferraro, MSW 2013
The day after my presentation – the day after not placing in the top three, I felt good, my energy was increasing. I felt renewed.
The feedback from the night before was beginning to bloom in my head. I needed to improve the organization of my speech based on the time frame. I had tried to weave three stories into my talk – the Sunday morning dilemma, the apparent divergent paths and the importance of searching for beauty and meditating on it. It dawned on me after talking with Gwen, that given the time frame, I was presenting too much material in too short a time frame. If I was giving a three hour presentation, the three stories could have been woven into the presentation in a smoother flow. Given the 7 minutes, I would have presented better if I had focused on the importance of the two key elements requried for placing one's intelllectual energy and emotional energy in a good feeling place, namely meditation (breathing) and searching for and focusing on the beauty that is within our experience.

Creative Life Force & our Cells

I Believe it is fascinating to realize that our physical cells respond to our creative emotional energies. This has major implications for our health, connecting with our purpose in life and our level of happiness. I do believe that to help our cells maintain health and to live our purpose it is very important to Meditate (achieve mindfulness through breathe) and to search out beauty wherever we are and take a few moments to admire the beauty. Our cells will thank us for the meditation and acknowledgement of beauty.

Abraham-Hicks has an interesting quote related to Our cells and our Creative Life Force

DAILY LAW OF ATTRACTION QUOTATION

"Every cell in your body has a direct relationship with Creative Life Force, and each cell is independently responding. When you feel joy, all the circuits are open and the Life Force or God Force can be fully received. When you feel guilt or blame or fear or anger, the circuits are hindered and the Life Force cannot flow as effectively. Physical experience is about monitoring those circuits and keeping them as open as possible. The cells know what to do. They are summoning the Energy."

"Sunday Morning, the Question, the Journey"

On Monday (2/4/13) evening, I presented my speech  "Sunday Morning, the Question, the Journey" at the Leadership Roundtable Toastmasters International Contest Meeting. I was awarded 1st Place and will go on to the District International Contest.

I spoke about my dilemma of choosing between my two passions: - Photography, capturing the emotional energy of a person, event, a scene, or creating art (abstract colors); Healing - helping a person use their emotional energies to heal from the pain they are experiencing or helping them make choices to rediscover their purpose and move toward their happiness.

I used my experience, learning and photographs to demonstrate the need to find beauty wherever we are, stop and admire the beauty for a few moments in order to put our thinking and feeling energies in a good feeling place. I have found that being in a good feeling place, regardless of whatever is stressing us, is a prerequisite to heal, to make meaningful change.

I have combined my talents and realized that I am a "Healing Photographer."  I will share my passions

  • in motivational speaking to Civic, Religious, and Corporate groups, to help their members move toward their bliss and achieve their goals.
  • in creating photographic books (with my poems)* and quality photographic prints to enable people to refocus on beauty and refresh themselves.
  • Individual Consultation, when a person gets stuck and needs some positive feedback.

* my first photographic book with my poems, "Flashes of Light" is already available. Contact me for details at my email address RmfTop@gmail.com
