Eyes ~ a tool for healing

Eyes ~ a tool (combining thinking and feeling energy) to heal

A client recently told me that it was hard to look into their own eyes in a mirror while reciting a list of positive affirmations about themself. The client had experience multiple traumas earlier in their life.

A few moments later, we talked about photography as a healing tool.

We discussed how taking picture of things[i] that are beautiful or subjects that we like[ii] can help us when we are feeling down or when we are challenged by negative energies. The client felt that recognizing the beauty of the present moment, and photographing it helped them overcome dark,  negative experiences from their past.

Taking photos of things that are beautiful to us[iii] can help us refocus on positive energies in several ways.

1) The first thing that helps us refocus our energies, is our stopping to breathe, to experience  and to acknowledge an element of beauty.[iv]

2) The second thing to help us … is to frame … compose the photo. We select what we want to include in our photo. We also select what we want to exclude from our photos. Composing requires us to use and coordinate our thinking and feeling energies. We use composition to select the beauty that we want to focus on. Composing helps us to set boundaries for our focus, our attention. We can exclude distractions or elements that do not add to the beauty that we want to capture and enjoy. Composition, in life, can also teach us how to include positive opportunities or exclude people or situations that are negative or harmful.

3) Once we have taken our photograph we can use it in two positive ways:

a. We can store it and recall it later in the day to

                                            i.     Enjoy the beauty that we had captured’

ii.     Share it with a friend and allow them to see the beauty that we captured

4) Recalling the image of beauty when we are beginning to drift or feel the temptation to move into a negative state of thinking, feeling … can remind us of the beauty in the world. It can help us chose to refocus on  positive thinking and energies. The shift of focus allows us to continue our journey with a positive direction.

The client smiled as she contemplated the joy of using the tool of photography on her journey of healing.

[i] It doesn’t matter if we use our camera phone or a dedicated camera

[ii] flowers, scenery, Archeitecture, people etc

[iii] Not of poverty, misfortune or destruction (negative energy focus)

[iv] Unlike a movie which is a continuum of moving images that flash by quickly
