Review: The Confident Mind: A battle tested guide to unshakable performance
By Dr. Nate Zinsser
Bottom Line: I Definitely recommend.
How many of us want to be successful?
How many worry and focus on the results?
How many of us are haunted by the thought of failure, or a medioca performance?
Perhaps the focus on success and results cause us to make a detour? Dr Zinsser points out how these two foci merely succeed in raising our anxiety and our stress. He points out how anxiety and stress work against our confidence and our being at perk delivery of our task.
He makes the point that we need several bank accounts to be developed in order to succeed to be confident and deliver our performance well.
Bank Accont no.1 “Filtering your past for valuable deposits”.
Bank Account no. 2 “Constructive Thinking in the present”
Bank Accound no. 3 “Envisoning your ideal future.”
Dr. Zinsser gives multiple examples of how to
develop and use each account.
In Chapter 7, Entering the Arena with confidence, he illustrates how a medical colleague
Enters the surgical theatre and the steps he uses to deliver to the patient the best that he can.
He discusses how Dr. Mark McLaughlin developed a process of the Five P’s to help him perform his best during complicated surgery. The Five P’s includes pausing, taking a breath, positive thoughts and prayer. In his book Dr Zinsser expands his colleagues Five P’s.
The Five P’s might be repeated several times during a complex surgery by Dr McLaughlin.
Dr. Zinsser gives us very useful advice in a very readable format.
Highly recommended.
