Some people expect to find happiness coming from others, or from the success of positively accomplishing some task.
They are very much in line with Dr. Sigmund Freud.
Specifically Freuds idea of the superego, namely the ego ideal. The ego ideal is a need to be well thought of by one's peers. So Freud locked up the source of a persons' happiness outside of the self.
I found a thought on the internet that said:
Expecting to find happiness from others, from outside oneself is like looking in the mirror
and expecting the mirror to smile first.
Are we so anxious about who our self is
that we will expect the mirror to smile first?
Remedy:
Six deep breathes and a period of silence ...
being receptive ... listening,
will allow us to feel happiness from the inside that we can radiate outside.
