Ralph’s Preview of the Canon Rebel 4Ti ( 650D ) DSLR

The Canon Rebel 4Ti (650D) occupies a pivotal position between the Canon G1X advanced professional point & shoot camera[1] and the Canon 7D professional camera[2]. I fell in love with the Canon Rebel 4Ti camera. It is compact, and feels great in your hands. The controls are well laid out. The image quality is very high, and it feels solidly built. It can be used fully automatic yet it has easy access to controls that give you great flexibility in terms of operating modes. The one criticism is that it doesn’t have a jack so that you can use headphones to monitor the video sound.
You can purchase this item at J an R camera

Positives:

o   Fast enough to get good shots of birds taking off from pond.
·      Small & lite - yet comfortable with good position for your right hand (thumb rest)
·      Touch Screen
o   To change menu settings
o   To change shooting settings
o   Makes working with the camera much more enjoyable and fun

Negatives:
·      A bit noisier than the Canon 7D
·      No place for pinky without battery grip
·      No headphone jack

Recommended lenses:
The quality image from the sensor is very high. In order to take advantage of the quality image from the sensor, I recommend buying the Canon Rebel 4Ti body and then adding one of the following better quality lenses rather than getting a kit lens.

·      Canon EF-S 15-85mm f3.5-5.6[5]  IS[6] USM[7]
o   35mm equivalent 24mm > 136mm (Great walk around lens)
§  24mm & 28mm handle wide angle shots
§  80mm, 90mm, 100mm, 136mm give great medium telephoto shots
o   Very sharp
o   Has “L” lens elements
o   Construction good – some lens creep

·      Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM
o   35mm equivalent 16mm > 35mm (extreme to moderate wide angle coverage)
o   sharp lens

·      Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro USM lens
o   35mm equivalent of 96mm (moderate telephoto, great for portraits or macro shots)
o   Sharp – macro 1:1 lens

·       Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM Pancake Lens
o   35mm equivalent of 64mm
o   Sharp – small – light - inexpensive

·      Any of the Canon professional “L” lenses

Worthwhile accessories:
·      Canon Battery Grip
o   More comfortable grip than without grip
§  Grip rests on bottom part of your palm
§  Also much more comfortable for Portrait shots
o   Uses either one or two Canon batteries.

·      BosStrap G3 (sling stlye strap that attaches to the Left Side Camera Lug (not the tripod socket)
o   Very comfortable
o   Easy to bring camera into position
o   Wraps around lens for storage
o   Strap can be detached from camera (tail stays connected to camera)
o   Much better than straps that attach to both camera lugs. For me, the straps that attach to both camera lugs tend to get in the way when using the camera.
o   Strap is worn sling style across your chest rather than hanging from you neck, which in turn produces less strain on your neck.

[1] The Canon G1X is a rangefinder style camera with a large sensor (about 20% smaller than an APS-C sensor, yet is larger that both the Olympus 4/3 cameras and Nikons mirror less cameras – it also includes an advanced DIGIC 5 processor.

[3] DIGIC 5 processor is “said to be 5x faster than DIGIC 4 Processor” according to www.imaging-resource.com.
[4] The DIGIC 5 Image Processor works with the camera’s CMOS sensor to deliver images with incredible detail in more situations, without the need for artificial light sources. With the power of the DIGIC 5 Image Processor the Rebel T4i can achieve higher ISO sensitivity, can shoot up to 5.0 fps continuously” according to Canon’s USA website.
