This is a photo of our friend Fern Raskover (left), who is a fellow Toastmaster. Gwen (my girlfriend) and Ralph (Right) were celebrating the great work Fern is doing by introducing Toastmasters to 1st & 2nd graders at a public School in Queens.
Fern had organized about 18, first & 2nd graders to give a speech performance to their classmates. The prior year the students were very uncomfortable about speaking to a group. One year later at the performance, each student gave 2 brief speeches. It is a tribute to the work that Fern does that each of the 18 students gave their speeches with gusto. After the speeches were completed, Fern, Gwen & I went to Umberto's of New Hyde Park and shared some of their delicious Grandma's pie to celebrate Fern's work with the young students.
Fern's work reflects the spirit of Toastmasters helping people to grow by learning to comfortably share their ideas and speak in front of a group.
