Review of Don Gabor's Book on Conversation and making Friends

Review of:
How to Start a Conversation and Make Friends  By Don Gabor

In my emotional energy workshops I teach that we are social emotional beings. Emotional beings are energy beings. As energy beings, it is important to let the energy between us flow. I help people develop their emotional energy skills and help them build relationships on different emotional energy levels because they are vital elements to help us achieve happiness and prosperity.

As a child and later as a young adult, I was shy and emotional constricted. It was not easy for me to bridge conversation and establish new relationships. As I grew and began to open up I have leaned to let go of patterns that I established within my family dynamics. I am having fun exploring new, open patterns of exchanging energy in a positive sharing way.

I discovered Don Gabor’s book as a result of
an event sponsored by the National Speakers Association. Don is a communications trainer and a member of the National Speakers Association.
His opening statement frames his approach:

Four key principles:
1)   Take the initiative and reach out to others;
2)   Show genuine interest in people;
3)   Treat others with respect and kindness;
4)   Value others and yourself as unique individuals who have much to share and offer one another.

The remainder of his book gives practical suggestions about: starting a conversation, continuing the conversation, ending the conversation and boosting the conversation to the next level. He also covers cyber communication. He ends with 50 tips to improve your conversation. He keeps his writing and advice practical and very readable. His book is well organized and spiced with a few helpful illustrations.

I highly recommend this book for anyone from beginner to advanced who wants to improve their communication and relationship skills.
